Police Department General Information
The Wheat Ridge Police Department employs a staff of just over 100 individuals to provide police services to the City. This includes sworn police officers and non-sworn employees.
The administrative offices for police operations are located in the Wheat Ridge Municipal Building at 7500 W. 29th Ave. Hours for the administrative offices are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The police department operates the 911 service for emergency police and fire assistance 24 hours a day. For routine police information and assistance, call 303-237-2220.

How many police officers are there at the Wheat Ridge Police Department?
Wheat Ridge has a total authorized strength of 72 officers. Typically, the police department has 2 or 3 openings at any given time due to retirements or resignations. Recruits attending the police academy and officers in the field training program are included in this number.

Can I send the Chief of Police a compliment about an officer for the services I received?
Compliments may be sent via U.S. mail, email, telephone or in person. The chief of police reviews all compliments received regarding employee conduct. Correspondence should be addressed to the Professional Standards Unit, Wheat Ridge Police Department, 7500 W. 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.

What if I feel that I did not like the level of service I received, can I comment on such service?
Citizens who feel the level of service they received was not satisfactory should contact the on-duty shift supervisor at 303-237-2220 for an immediate response. Any comments, positive or negative, may also be referred to the Professional Standards Unit at 303-235-2908.

Does the police department have a complaint policy?
The police department accepts complaints from any source regarding allegations of employee misconduct. Citizens who wish to file a complaint may do so by contacting the on-duty shift supervisor by calling 303-237-2220, or the Professional Standards Unit at 303-235-2908.

Does the department have a Reserve Program?
Not at this time. The department did have one years ago but the state changed the requirements of the program and it was no longer cost effective.

How can I speak to the Chief of Police?
You may contact the chief’s assistant at 303-235-2913 to inquire about the Chief’s immediate availability or leave a message for a call back.

How do I get employment information?

Can I receive news releases from the police department?

How can I become a Wheat Ridge Police Officer?

The Wheat Ridge Police Department is in the process of starting a cell phone donation program. Check back for details.

Can I request a police department patches?
Due to the large volume of police patch requests received at the Wheat Ridge Police Department, we no longer forward patches to collectors.

Do you register bicycles?
The Wheat Ridge Police Department does not have a bike registration program. You may register them at
National Bike Registry.

Can I find out if an area I'm planning to move into is safe?
On this website under Police Department Neighborhood Crime Statistics tab there is a link to Corona Solutions which provides crime statistics for neighborhoods in Wheat Ridge.

Can I volunteer for the police department?
Potential volunteers must submit an application and list of references, and be willing to go through an extensive background investigation. If chosen to be a volunteer, you will receive training for the position that best fits your interests and the department’s needs.

I need a weapons permit. Where do I go?
The county sheriff issues concealed weapons permits. For the City of Wheat Ridge that would be the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. You can find the Jefferson County requirements on their web site http://jeffco.us/sheriff.

How do I obtain an alarm permit from the City of Wheat Ridge?
The Wheat Ridge Police Department does not require alarm permits.
