Sustainable Wheat Ridge, a volunteer group sponsored by the City of Wheat Ridge, has become one of several organizations to support Fresh Food Connect’s new mobile app. Denver Food Rescue, Boulder Food Rescue, and Colorado Springs Food Rescue as well as Wheat Ridge Family Tree are receiving fresh produce from local gardens through this collaborative program for distribution to the families they serve.

Fresh Food Connect’s mobile app coordinates the donations of home grown produce to local non-profit organizations like Family Tree. Gardeners sign up via Fresh Food Connect’s mobile app and indicate when they have extra produce. Family Tree will appear automatically as the Wheat Ridge option when gardeners type in 80033. Gardeners then list what they are donating and upload a photo and then deliver their produce to Family Tree during the times listed. Family Tree will distribute to people living in their domestic violence shelter and/or to people experiencing homelessness who are receiving support services.
