This is the second year of the program. In 2019, during the City’s 50th Anniversary, the Poet in Residence wrote and presented six poems that were read at various Wheat Ridge events. Poems were also posted to the City of Wheat Ridge social media accounts and the Wheat Ridge Cultural Events Facebook page, and were included in the City’s Connections newsletter. During the second year, the poet will also be expected to conduct outreach workshops at several Wheat Ridge schools.
“Poetry should inspire the community and be accessible to a diverse population as well as be an expression of the City’s civic spirit,” stated David Opp, Cultural Commission chair. “We are very fortunate to be able to continue this special program and bring the beauty of the spoken word to life in this way for our community.”
A $1,000 stipend accompanies this residency, to be distributed over the two years.
