The Wheat Ridge Police Department is committed to a philosophy of community policing, which includes a commitment to engage our community in a collaborative effort to address the issues of crime, traffic, and quality of life in an effort to make Wheat Ridge a safer community in which to live, work, and play.
WRPD’s Community Advisory Group was formed to provide a forum for open dialogue regarding community policing strategies and community issues. It is intended to increase community engagement in programs that will make our community safer, while discussing trends in law enforcement, and increasing public awareness of the department.
The application process for new members will open in the fall of 2020. Interested community members must live in Wheat Ridge, complete an application, and consent to a background check. Qualified applicants will be invited to an interview will Chief Murtha as the final step in the process. Meetings are held every other month on the third Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m.
Applications are now open. Deadline is Dec. 15, 2020. In addition to the application, candidates must agree to a background check, an interview with the Chief of Police and an interview with a member of the Advisory Group.
