Wadsworth Boulevard Improvements, 35th Avenue to I-70

In 2016, Wheat Ridge voters supported the improvement of Wadsworth Boulevard to relieve traffic congestion, improve business access, and provide better options for pedestrians and cyclists. Last improved in 1950, this project includes modernizing and improving Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to I-70 with efficient and safe intersection designs at 38th and 44th Avenues, safer entrances and exits for vehicles accessing businesses, and a continuous sidewalk on the west and a bike/pedestrian path on the east side of Wadsworth from 35th Avenue to the Clear Creek Trail. With a total cost of approximately $60 million, this project will transform Wadsworth into a multimodal roadway that enhances traffic operations, improves access, and supports the vision of a livable, walkable mixed-use corridor.

Project Update  (March, 2023)

If winter weather conditions cooperate, March will be a very busy month!Reconstructing the intersection of Wadsworth and 44th Avenue is a major part of the Wadsworth Improvement Project. Crews recently installed manholes, inlets, and pipeline along northbound Wadsworth including the area near 44th Avenue. With utility relocations out of the way at the north end of the corridor, the contractor will start constructing surface improvements for the roadway widening and the continuous flow intersection (CFI) at 44th Avenue. In the coming weeks, concrete paving will resume along northbound Wadsworth. Periodic side street closures and temporary access modifications are necessary while paving equipment moves from north to south.Traffic signal foundation and street light installation are on-going along northbound Wadsworth. The project is in the process of replacing old infrastructure – some dating back to the 1950s! The corridor is undergoing a major overhaul and your continued patience traveling through the work zone is appreciated.
