In February 2011, WRHA purchased seven single family homes that were previousy used as rentals by Jefferson County Housing Authority (JCHA). The homes are located throughout the City, generally in neighborhoods that could benefit from the improvements.
Over the next two years, WRHA will rehabilitate the homes making them available as affordable housing in the community. WRHA is partnering with JCHA on the rehabilitation of the properties. The homes include two and three bedroom properties. Mechanical systems, windows, and roofing will all be updated as needed. Kitchens and bathrooms will be remodeled with new appliances and fixtures. Energy efficiency in new systems and appliances will be a focus of the rehabilitation work . In addition, yards will receive new landscaping thereby improving the appearance of the neighborhoods in many cases.
Once completed, WRHA will have seven newly refurbished properties available for low to moderate income and first-time homebuyers. Down payment assistance will be available for these properties when they are ready to be sold.
