The City of Wheat Ridge is recruiting residents wanting to participate in their government by volunteering on the City’s Boards and Commissions.
Generally, applicants must live in the district for which they are applying for, but under certain circumstances exceptions can be made, so apply if interested.Applications can be found at the bottom of this page or at City Hall. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk’s office, 7500 W. 29th Ave. Wheat Ridge, CO. 80033 or on-line, by December 27, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.There are currently two (2) openings on the Building Code Advisory Board, two (2) openings on the Parks and Recreation Commission, two (2) openings on the Renewal Wheat Ridge Board.Their descriptions are as follows:Building Code Advisory Board, District 1 (Fills a term ending 3/2/20 and can reapply for another term) - District II (Fills a term ending 3/2/22); Acts as a hearing officer on reviews of decisions of the building inspector. The Board determines the suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction and provides for reasonable interpretations of the Uniform Codes.Please note that by Ordinance No. 1478, members of this board shall be qualified by experience and trained to pass upon matters pertaining to building construction. Preference will be given to applicants with a Professional Engineering background.Parks & Recreation Commission -- District II (Fills a term 3/02/21) and District IV (Fills a term 3/02/20) Regularly consults with the Director of Parks and Recreation; reviews legislation relating to parks and recreation matters to the City Council; acts as liaison between the Department of Parks and Recreation and the community at large; promotes and develops positive relationships with community groups. The Commission has the authority to develop Parks and Regulations for the proper management, operation, and control of the parks, parkways, and other recreation facilities within the City Renewal Wheat Ridge -- District I, (Fills a term 3/02/24) – District IV (Fills a term 3/02/21) Renewal Wheat Ridge has the power to undertake urban renewal projects and execute contracts; buy and sell property; dedicate property it owns for public projects; sue and be sued; enter property and buildings, with the consent of the owner, to undertake surveys or appraisals; condemn property or leases; borrow money; make appropriations and expenditures of its funds; invest its funds subject to certain restrictions; make reasonable relocation payments; contract with consultants or advisors to accomplish duties related to urban renewal. Members are appointed by the Mayor and ratified by City Council.Election Commission – Two (2) At-Large appointmentsThe Election Commission consists of the city clerk and two (2) registered electors of the city. The election commission shall provide for: ballots, sample ballots and any voting methods as approved by state statutes; the determination of the winner by lot in the event of a tie vote; the canvass of returns; and the issuance of appropriate certificates.
